This page contains information on NCVYS's mission, charitable objectives and aims and our values. Established in 1936, the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services is a diverse and growing network of over 170 national organisations and regional and local networks that work with and for young people. NCVYS is the only national independent body that represents voluntary and community youth organisations in England. Through the work that we do, we are helping such organisations to build their capacity to deliver quality youth work. Our mission is to work with our members from voluntary and community organisations to build thriving communities and sustainable networks that help all young people achieve their potential. Our charitable objectives: To help and educate young people to develop their social, physical, mental and spiritual capacities so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society, through the work, in particular, of our constituent members.
Our aims: To act as a champion for voluntary and community youth organisations, ensuring that their experiences are at the core of public policymaking. To provide leadership and support to voluntary and community organisations in the development of best practice and standards. To build an enterprise culture and coordinate a sector approach to business development.
NCVYS's vision is of a society where young people are valued for their contribution and supported by their communities.NCVYS Values A number of key values underpin NCVYS's work. They are found in our Membership Charter and may also form the basis for policies and strategies. At present, NCVYS has in place a youth participation policy and strategy, and an equal opportunities employment policy. Both are available to members and other stakeholders on request. Initiative NCVYS wishes to make a difference and develop its network as a constantly improving and learning network of organisations that work together to achieve better opportunities for young people. NCVYS is ambitious and determined never to stand still but to continue developing as a network and organisation. As an organisation we will show initiative and leadership wherever we can and encourage the same in the individuals that contribute to the work of the organisation. NCVYS understands that without creativity and drive shown by individuals we will not succeed as an organisation. NCVYS is committed to allowing young people, trustees, staff and representatives of the membership the freedom that it takes to show initiative and drive the NCVYS network forward. Responsibility NCVYS is concerned about the footprint it leaves behind and wishes to act responsible at all times to ensure that the impact of its work is positive. NCVYS values the contribution its members, the government, charitable trusts and the public make to resource NCVYS's work. NCVYS is committed to use these resources responsibly and in a way that takes account of charity and company laws, agreed public standards and environmental considerations. NCVYS also values the trust that members place in their elected Trustee Board and in the NCVYS staff. NCVYS is committed to sustain that trust by operating openly and responsibly. Equality NCVYS believes that all individuals and organisations from within the NCVYS membership have an equal right to take advantage of opportunities and participate in decision making. NCVYS will be flexible in approach and take all steps that are necessary to facilitate the involvement of all those that want to take part. NCVYS recognizes its responsibility in challenging discrimination in all forms to ensure that current barriers standing in the way of participation can and will be removed. NCVYS recognizes that it needs to do more to ensure that all those that could potentially take advantage of opportunities know that they exist. NCVYS is committed to taking a pro-active approach to encouraging organisations that work with young people facing disadvantage into membership and will take all appropriate steps to ensure that their diverse range of needs is met.
