Members are given opportunities to participate in events, including bi-annual peer support residentials for workers in local networks and quarterly meetings of chief officers of NCVYS members. Hold your diary! NCVYS and UK Youth invite you to a joint conference and AGM on 28 November 2012 in London. Teaming up, the two organisations will deliver a joint conference focusing on collaboration and partnership in the voluntary and community youth sector. The day will also include time for both to hold their AGMs. For more information, please click here. Recent Events Keep the faith; Inter-faith seminar (Catalyst event)
(Monday 26 March 2012, 10-4pm, St Martin in the Bullring, Edgbaston Street, Birmingham, B5 5BB) This was a one-day, multi-sector, inter-faith seminar for facilitators, trainers and youth practitioners working with children, young people and families. It sought to explore challenges and opportunities for organisations and practitioners working within and around their faith-based youth work context and to promote the value of inter-faith approaches and activity across the youth work space. We invited a series of speakers to offer insightful perspectives, evidence and ideas that can help to inform and stimulate thinking and discussion across the seminar. A selection of hands on practical sessions which will both inform and challenge practice and organisational opportunities. We hoped to provide a supportive, inclusive and progressive space for effective dialogue across the diversity of faith-based youth work perspectives. NCVYS, as part of the Department for Education's Overarching Strategic Partnership, has recently held a number events to support those working in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector with children, young people and families. Consultation workshops on young people's services in London (26 March) and Birmingham (19 March) discussed how young people feel about services for them. The Eye of the Storm seminar was a one-day, multi-sector health and wellbeing seminar for service planners and practitioners. You can also learn more about the speakers and workshops here. Policy classes looked at prominent areas of policy development including localism, education, safeguarding and benefit reforms . They brought together VCSE organisations to learn from each other about the impact of policy initiatives. The Unemployment roundtable shared knowledge of Rathbone’s perspective on youth unemployment. Regional Strategy Consultation In November and December 2011, NCVYS held regional strategy consultations. We will be revealing further information about our work to devise our next strategy soon. NCVYS and Clinks event on Youth JusticeClinks and NCVYS, who are working with the Department for Education’s Overarching Strategic Partnership, held a discussion on Youth Justice and Early Intervention on 22 November in Leeds. The purpose of the discussion was to open up a dialogue between organisations around the changes, challenges and issues within the Youth Justice System. >> Read more about the event here. Positive for Youth - Young People’s EventThe Positive for Youth planning group invited young people to have their say on the Department for Education’s (DfE) new Positive for Youth Policy. This was a chance to shape the future of youth policy and effect change. NCVYS & Department for Education bring together youth sector and young people at Positive for Youth SummitThe NCVYS and DfE Youth Summit saw youth organisations come together with ministers to discuss and debate the key issues affecting young people. It was also an opportunity for these youth organisations to explore the possibility of partnerships to strengthen the youth sector. Youth Strategy Board meetings Youth Strategy Board meetings (formerly known as Chief Officers’ meetings) are an opportunity for all NCVYS members chief officers to come together to explore areas of interest to NCVYS members. During 2010 NCVYS's Policy Officer worked in partnership with NCVO Third Sector Foresight to conduct research into the drivers (trends and forces) that could impact on the voluntary and community youth sector over the next 5-10 years. Envoy NCVYS's youth forum ENVOY is equally active in organising events such as their bi-annual residential and their nine regional and one national Young Partners Awards. For more information on ENVOY events, please turn to the Youth Participation section. Members and other interested parties also have opportunities to share their views and contribute to consultation responses at round table discussions and seminars organised around specific policy themes such as the Ten Year Youth Strategy, the Drugs Strategy, ContactPoint, vetting and barring, workforce development, placeshaping, community cohesion, the envrionment, social exclusion and more.
